Wow that is really sweet of you, what a wonderful compliment. To answer your question, I don’t have to work hard to keep myself motivated it really does come from inside , I’m pretty sure I’ve felt motivated since the second I was born. And Im not just saying that I mean it. I was motivated in kindergarten, its something that has to be internal not external. Not everyone is born with it and it might have had something to do with how I was raised (my parents were amazing). But, I think it comes from KNOWING what you are capable of and not settling for anything less. Someone told me this once when I felt really discouraged…there are many, many ways to get to what you want, and it doesn’t matter what path you take. I thought this was particularly inspiring because at that point in my life I had just decided to turn down medical school (the goal I had been working toward my whole life), but then I realized there is not ONE way to get there, to be the person I want to be and to accomplish what I was meant to accomplish, there are endless ways, and this is just a new path, maybe its the path I was always meant to have. So to tie this back to motivation, figure out what you want, and it can be anything: you want to be great, you want to contribute something major to the world , you want to be in text books for years to come..whatever it is, and let that be your motivation, let your potential and capability be your fuel. But you can’t just pretend to know what your meant for you have to believe it and know it down to your core, and thats where real motivation comes from. On your death bed are you going to be proud of yourself, are your kids going to be proud to tell your life story to their kids and get so excited they talk about it to their teachers at show and tell. Are you going to be one of those people that your family 200 years down the road says do you know what great, great grandma jen did with her life? Are you less capable than anyone, or more specifically are you less capable than anyone great, no ur not. Anyway thats some of the way I think when I make decisions…to do homework or not, to put in the extra few days studying, to go to grad school instead of taking a job when I need the money, etc…
Hope this helps a little bit. And again, thank you for that compliment :)
